Battle of the Books is a fun reading competition. I want my students to be excited and have access to the books to maintain that excitement. Once they see the books, I hope they are more inclined to join the team and participate, as well as to read independently.
Having the books on hand will help my students be better prepared for Battle. I envision that they will want to start reading right away. I also hope their excitement encourages other reluctant readers to try a new genre. Battle of the Books, in this case, is more of a gateway to help students want to read for fun.
