I would like to create a space in my room where students who are feeling overwhelmed and over-stimulated can be alone. I will be able to make sure they are safe by not leaving, but also not questioning or trying to talk to them. Many of our students are on the autism spectrum and are highly intelligent. They struggle with social skills and loud noises in the classroom, gym and cafeteria. This space will have a comfortable bean bag chair, a curtain for privacy, a string of led lights, a tall lava lamp, a sensory moon aquarium, motion bubbler, a moving jelly fish tank and a comfortable blanket.
Children will be able to choose from a plethora of calming sensory sounds, lights and soothing visuals in a very comfortable safe space that allows them to step into quiet; even if only for a few moments of the day.
