When young readers are given options to choose from that are of a high interest, they will be more likely to read. Increasing reading interest leads to more minutes spent reading on a daily basis. These informational books will encourage reluctant readers to try a new type of book. Many of my students are boys and research shows that boys are drawn more to informational texts. This year, most of my students enjoy learning facts about animals or places in the world. By supporting their interests I am encouraging more positive reading experiences and higher engagement by all of my students.
