Our school is a small school located in central Michigan. All students in our K-12 school (approximately 600 students) qualify for free breakfast and lunch. I am a special education of 26 years, all of which have been dedicated to this district.
This year I have 18 students on my caseload, all with varying needs and disabilities, in grades 5, 6, and 7. Each day is a filled with different challenges, whether it be student inattentiveness, restlessness, and/or emotional regulation issues that often accompany disabilities like ADHD and other impairments. Each day also has many victories, which is what I focus on at the end of each day. Looking for the joys and victories at the end of each day helps me to reflect and notice positive changes taking place right in my own classroom.
