Many schools have Family Literacy Nights, espeically at the elememtary and middle school level. What makes ours different is that it is a student planned and run high school event! Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors work together for several months to create an evening event focused on book-themed activity rooms where they engage peers, families, siblings, and staff of all ages in exciting activities all about literature. They even help prepare book-themed food with our school chef - Cloudy with a Chance of Spaghetti and Meatballs and Dragon Loves Tacos Taquitoes are two fan favorites!
Donating to our project will help each participant or family leave with a free bag of books for their home library as well as crafts and memories all about books; even more importantly, it will help our students leave with a sense of accomplishment and excitement over the literacy event they prepared and presented and the new books in their own hands! This has become a yearly event for our school, growing each time to include outside participants and authors as well. The more excitement we can create about reading at the high school level as well as the more books we can get into the hands of our students, staff, families, and friends, the better.
Please consider helping our event become even stronger. Thank you!
