The storage containers I have chosen serve a dual purpose. The pandemic has wreaked havoc on our school structure and I am attempting to put systems in place to help gain some control back. First, my students will be coming to me in two sections. Half of my class will come for face to face learning two days a week and the other half on a different two days a week. The required social distancing is forcing us to spread desks apart and students on alternate days will use the same desk. This creates a dilemma regarding student materials. The tubs I have requested will allow for each student to have their own container to store their personal learning materials. They can be at their seat with everything they need, so moving around the room and challenging the social distancing regulations to acquire materials will be limited. The two different colors will allow me to keep the student bins separated by days they attend and aid in organization.
Although the organization would be wonderful, I feel the most meaningful benefit is how it will emotionally support my students. This pandemic has made life so uncertain and scary for my young kiddos. Even if they have not been personally affected by the virus, they have heard so many stories that have made them anxious about public places. My goal of this project is to offer my students a small piece of reassurance; reassurance that their materials will not be handled by another student. I want them to worry less about the virus and just be open to the learning I'm eagerly wanting to offer them. I can't wait to see the sparkle back in their eyes as they enjoy our classroom for the fun, learning environment I'm trying to create.
