Students in my Reading Intervention class are significantly behind on their reading comprehension skills -- some students are on a Kindergarten reading level in the ninth grade. One of the biggest struggles I have in this class is getting some students to "buy-in" to what it is that I am teaching, because the curriculum is outdated or not relevant to their daily struggles.
By finding engaging novels that can fit into our current units of study, I can kill two birds with one stone: teaching the curriculum while engaging students. When I first read the novel "One of Us is Lying," I immediately began thinking of tons of different activities that I can use within the classroom that would interest my students while still meeting them on their current levels.
