Currently my classroom houses 20 combination seats; this means that the desks and chairs are attached. This causes several problems: desk arrangements are extremely limited, some students have difficulty getting comfortable, and collaborative work is very difficult! Usually, the desks end up in rows, which is not beneficial to learning or working together.
In social studies, I encourage discussions and collaborative work when discussing our world, but our seating makes it a challenge. I would love to offer my students separate desks and chairs, not to mention desks that were made to be arranged in collaborative ways! We are also a 1:1 school with Chromebooks; once our computers are out, the desk tops do not allow for other items to be on the desk. With new seating, I expect our workflow to grow, along with communication skills. New, triangular-shaped desks will give us countless arrangement options to work together or independently.
