In the sixth grade students are dealing with a multitude of change. They are changing schools, changing bodies, and changing the structure of their day and the way they learn. Students are now required to sit in longer classes with more intense focus. In my classroom students do forty-five minutes of silent reading while I confer with students one on one. In order to help students remain focused on their task I would like to provide some alternative seating. This seating allows students some freedom to move while still continuing to learn. Even as adults we need to move positions or release some energy, but if a classroom of sixth graders did this it could be complete chaos. This is a way to control the chaos while still providing students with the physical movement they need in order to promote focus.
