While we have a class set of some classics, which are taught in class, students largely do not read outside of school because they cannot currently take books home. The class sets (approx. 30 copies) have to remain at school and rotate between five different teachers (each with four classes). We have some empty shelves, which we want to fill with books for kids to check out and take home to read.
These books will be the first additions to our school library, which does not exist right now. Students do not have easy access to a local library (i.e. they'd have to take the bus to another neighborhood) and most do not have internet at home.
