I'm setting up this Ðǿմ«Ã½ project to try getting three document cameras for me and our two other special education teachers. We all model how to structure sentences and how to do assignments regularly, and with the current safety procedures, it will not be as easy to give guidance while social distancing. All three of us have students whose primary language is not English. Therefore, I have found a document camera that has a translation feature so that we can communicate with out students and their parents a little bit easier.
I have been assigned to be the online special education teacher for our students who have been registered to learn online due to COVID-19. I am also teaching 4th grade Social Emotional Learning lessons online this school year. This is a new way of teaching, and I would like to be able to support all my students to the best of my ability.
For my special education students, I assign them reading passages along with retell documents so that I can assess how well they are comprehending what they are learning. Teaching online is going to limit my ability to easily model how to form sentences and convey thoughts clearly unless I have a document camera to show how their work should be structured. Several of my students have English as a second language. I need to be able to communicate with their parents easily and would like to be able to send an additional translated copy of the reading passage to help their child hear it in both languages.
