Each and every day, the readers in my class spend time diving into different books and stories. However, it has been challenging for many of them to find books that are at an appropriate reading level AND highly interesting. I am a first-year teacher, and most of the books in our classroom library are older books that I collected from used book bargain sales hosted by local libraries. While my students appreciate the books we have, they deserve books that are more relatable and engaging. The type of book that every student in my classroom requests most often is graphic novels.
With these new graphic novels, the readers in my class will be able to find stories that they cannot put down and truly experience the magic of reading. These graphic novels will not only captivate students, many of them come in series. Book series are valuable to readers because they create a more complex and developed story that supports readers' comprehension. Readers will get to know and love characters, and then follow those characters through multiple adventures.
Learners in my class are craving the perfect book series that will interest them. These graphic novels will be the independent reading materials that they need to ignite success and a passion for reading.
