The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the social-emotional needs of our students. We have seen an increase in students' stress and anxiety and a decrease in their ability to self-regulate their emotions.
In past years, we have been able to support our students' social-emotional needs by providing classroom toolkits containing sensory tools and strategies that all students could access if they were feeling dysregulated or stressed. This year however, students are unable to share materials, making our classroom toolkits obsolete.
As a result, we are looking to to create individual toolkits for every student; this would include our in-person learners and our CVL students learning from home. These toolkits would be called 'Reset Bags' and will contain strategies and tools for every student.
Our staff will use their PRIDE time, which is a 30-minute block (daily), to explicitly teach our students the strategies and techniques and how to use the tools included in our 'Reset Bags' so our students can successfully use them independently.
