My Media Center is directly connected to the cafeteria. Our students are in the Cafeteria at the start of each day and for lunch.
I wanted to provide a quite welcoming space in the Media Center since the cafeteria noise can be overwhelming for many students.
I had a couple of chess sets sitting on a table and they naturally gravitated to them. Very quickly my 2 set were not enough!
I love that it has become a space for academic challenge with a board game while bringing students together. I have watched as students wait for someone to come in and then they ask if they want to play chess. If they aren’t sure how to play-they teach them. Often I have 4 or 5 gathered around watching 2 students play. I know with more sets I will have more players!
