I want to promote individual responsibility. For example, using bins to hand in homework, checking their mailboxes for work that has been handed back and other announcements, and using the bins to organize books and whiteboards to use as supports during lessons.
Students should always be able to find what they need and be able to keep track of themselves. Too often students wander around looking. for what they need instead of asking. I want my students to be independent, but that requires I make sure everything I put out for them is easy to find.
Everyone knows that a clean and organized classroom will help the students feel at home and will also help them to locate and use all the supports I set up for them.
