Kids with autism stress out very easily at school, especially when routines change. Having a safe place for them to get away from the rest of the class for a few minute can make a hug difference.
Many times, my students with autism will have melt downs that can cause problems for them and other students. With the IPad, I can have apps that can give their minds a distraction from what is causing them stress. It is also a good tool to use with other students to participate with autistic students' learning.
