Flexible seating has many benefits. During language arts/reading, we do the Daily 5, which is composed of reading to self, reading to others, listening to reading, word work, and writing. I have my students do these as "stations" where they are divided into four groups of four students who spend 15 minutes at each station. The same thing goes for math, where students split up to work together on teacher-made or game-like stations. As of now, students can choose to sit under tables, on the carpet, or in their cubbies. Student-led stations allow them to take ownership of their learning but I can't help but feel like they need better seating options! The benefits of flexible seating include comfort, collaboration, new friendships, engagement, improved behavior, and "the power of choice." I am sure that my students will love the products that I selected as new seating options for a more effective and fun learning environment. The chair ball with feet will allow my students to release extra energy and the soft seats will keep them extra comfy!
