I have seen first hand how having student choice and flexible seating options improves a classroom community, student performance, and overall morale for several teachers in my school. Especially in first grade, it is important that students are comfortable and are able to make choices that help them take ownership of their learning in the classroom. I have my students move around, transition from carpet to seat, collaborate within groups, and rotate around the room every day. They have appreciated the home-made and DIY options I have provided, but I will need more sturdy seats if I want to continue this method for years to come. Thank you for your consideration!
