I am a current kindergarten teacher at MES. We are a STEM and IB school. I would like to start a new PBL (project based learning) in September. The items I have put on my wish list will help build our sensory garden. I have requested books on flowers and gardens for our classroom. Reading provides and enrichment for my students. They will also learn key science terms by using the garden tools. We will also learn about the seasons and the appropriate time to plant the seeds. The seeds I selected have been recommended for the 5 senses. One of our standards for kindergarten is our 5 senses. This project will provide hands-on learning for my students. When we take part in a project it provides a sense of ownership and learning. Sensory gardens improve physical fitness, health, mood and cognition. Gardening and plant care help children develop gross and fine motor skills. Time outdoors, breathing fresh air, and being exposed to sunlight are extremely beneficial to the children's overall physical health. I am super excited to play a part in creating interest in our children and their contribution to our community.
