School closure due to COVID-19 has forced both me, my fellow SLP, and our students into a whole new world! A virtual, online speech-language therapy universe. None of us were prepared for this new service delivery mode. We need appropriate equipment and materials to successfully navigate remote learning/therapy.
We need your help to carry on and move forward with building communication skills critical to learning! We need the headsets to access the technology, to hear our students practice from their homes. We need digital therapy materials from sources like Teachers Pay Teachers that can be delivered via online platforms. Colorful slides and interactive games, depicting story characters, events, and vocabulary will be presented remotely in small or individual speech sessions. My students will practice retelling, answering comprehension questions, expanding sentences, describing, formulating questions, and turn taking in conversations and discussions of class topics. We must keep providing the services for students with with communication needs in order for them to participate and benefit from their education, no matter where it takes place.
