It is unprecedented what our students are facing coming to school. Many things that were once normal for us will change such as being able to sit with friends, play with friends, and even work together closely on classroom projects. These drastic changes are going to be hard for students to adjust to and will ultimately result in stress and anxiety for our precious kiddos.
This project will provide students with materials to help them cope with the stress and anxiety that they will face during the drastic changes this school year. The materials that will be given to my class through this project will give my students a healthy outlet for their stress and anxiety to ensure that they can continue to learn despite the circumstances.
"How will these materials be used?" you may be asking yourself. The chair bands will be placed on every student's chair. Chair bands are a quiet method that students can use to self-regulate in the classroom. In addition to the chair bands, students will have access to the wobble chairs and marble fidget toys also within this project. These resources will serve to help students have a healthy outlet for their anxiety and stress and allow them to better pay attention in class. Lastly, the Mindful Game Activity Cards will be used as a whole group mindfulness activity at the beginning of every day. Research has shown that mindfulness has many benefits such as increased attention and focus, less stress, and greater empathy and perspective-taking. I want to help my students to reap these benefits, especially this school year.
