I am asking for flexible seating for my classroom because I have seen what an immense difference it makes in students' ability to focus. I recently saved up all of my scholastic rewards points to be able to buy 1 balance ball for a student of mine that has an incredibly hard time sitting in his seat and focusing on his work. The day I let him use it, a miracle happened! He was able to lightly bounce on the ball (we discussed the rules prior to me giving it to him), and he got ALL of his work done. It was like a completely different student.
Since then, I have been itching to get flexible seating for every child in my room. I am hoping to utilize the balance balls in my small group area, and put a wiggle cushion on each of their seats. With the incredible impact that it had on my one student, I know that it will benefit others in my classroom. Young children are so often expected to sit still and work, work, work! My goal is to bring a bit more fun into their school day and simultaneously increase their ability to focus!
