Each year I like to read several books with my students. I have read Charlotte's Web every year. I would love to have a class set of my own. This way every student has a copy so they can follow along. This allows all my students the ability to both see and hear the words at the same time. After we have read the story we watch both the live action movie and the cartoon version. Once we have seen both versions we compare and contrast all three versions. While reading I have my students do different things so I know they are following along. Often I ask questions during the reading session. I also have the students draw their favorite part of the story, and write a couple sentences about what they drew from the daily reading session. This allows me to check and see if they were paying attention to what was read. Having a book allows them to go back and use quotes from the story to explain their picture.
