These books will help my students in many different ways, as it will be bringing back the excitement to reading! While working from home, we have had to get creative with building a culture for reading, even though we are apart. These books will be used to reward students, which will, in turn, encourage them to continue working hard through the rest of the school year. These books will also be used to participate in virtual read alouds and book discussions as well. We have found that this motivates students to push themselves to meet their goals! I also hope that these books will be in our classroom library for students to enjoy in years to come! I would love to send my students a book to borrow in the mail, since they are no longer in our classroom where they are able to borrow any book! I know my students would appreciate it now, more than ever during these scary and unknown times. All of the books were chosen with student interest kept in mind. This list is also based on highly recommended books from other teachers and colleagues. These books are very diverse and current, providing students with realistic stories to connect to and learn from. It is so important, especially now as we are not in school, to ensure that students are being exposed to an array of genres, topics, and much more! In this list, there is something for all of my students!
