Flexible seating is becoming a more popular classroom idea and I'm hoping to jump on the bandwagon as well. Students are more engaged and involved when they have control of their learning. Giving them options of not only their assignments, but where they work on those assignments in the classroom will help keep students engaged and on task.
Allowing students to have control and choices in their learning will increase student engagement. Different tables, seating options, and areas in the classroom will give students these options, and will allow them to let their creativity flow in different areas of our classroom. Keeping students engaged in their learning is the number one issue teachers have in reaching out to each student.
If a student doesn't see the importance or excitement in their learning, they won't be engaged and therefore, won't retain any of the information being taught. How does a table or stool help with this all powerful engagement? It gives students a choice an option and control. The students are able to choose where they sit, what they sit in, and who they sit by, which in turn, gives them the sought after control in their learning every student yearns for.
