My Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will begin their first year in elementary school through Distance Learning. Building a classroom community and setting the foundations for our year of learning is so important, although it will be not in our physical classroom.
Building the foundations of literacy with our youngest learners, such as letter sounds and letter recognition, is even more challenging when we are not face to face. I want to instill the joy of singing, reading, and writing with my TK/Kindergarten class.
Creating a classroom environment at home, in a limited space, is difficult. With the use of a bright light and microphone during live Zoom sessions, as well as recordings, it will help my 4 and 5 year olds pick up on alphabetic principles, rhythm and rhyme, academic language, as well as social cues such as body language. My students are also enrolled in a dual language program where they receive fifty percent of their instruction in English, and fifty percent of their instruction in Spanish. Being able to hear me and see me clearly is imperative. Although I can't control that we will not be in our classroom, I am excited and committed to providing them with an amazing year of learning!
