Our student population continues to develop and change. Many present with a variety of sensory needs that require additional support in the school setting. Some tools, such as fidgets, velcro on the desk, thick dark tape (to designate boundaries), etc. are fairly inexpensive to purchase. Other items are not.
Headphones or earmuffs that quiet loud noises are beneficial for students who are sensitive to loud noises. Special cushions give certain students stimulation by allowing movement while seated to help them attend to instruction better. Visual timers provide a clear visual representation of time passing to help students understand how long they have to complete their work. Timers can also be used to help students use calm down strategies in an allotted amount of time to better regroup.
These tools are to be shared across two classrooms to better benefit the students who need them.
