My 6th grade students deserve to read an in-class novel for summer school that can transform their thinking about human interaction, behavior, and decisions that affect a community and even just one person. A Long Walk To Water is this novel for them. By following the real-life story of Salva Dut and his incredible determination to overcome his numerous challenges in the quest for water, freedom, and search for family, my students will come to an understanding of how fortunate they are to have easy access to water and how they can become helpers to others, even in other countries, who have the same desire and need for this precious resource.
