I have a large amount of ELL students who are socioeconomically disadvantaged and need the exposure to the English language. In my class I use a listening center to expose students to audio books and provide them the opportunity to listen to the language.
Providing students access to the phonemic awareness listening center activities will help build the foundational skills needed for reading. This will also afford them the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of letters and sounds which is crucial in learning to read. Students will not only be listening to the activity but also manipulating the phonics mat which makes it a fun, interactive activity that students will enjoy while they learn!
