The days of teaching from a single text book are gone, which provides a great but sometimes stressful opportunity for teachers to provide rich, engaging, current and relatable literature for students. If it isn't cool, teenagers likely will not read it; I aim to make reading cool again while helping students gain the skills they need to succeed academically.
My focus is to offer a classroom library of current and diverse YA literature that feature characters that my students can relate to or see in their every day lives in order to gain interest while teaching required reading and writing strategies.
Putting books in the hands of my students is not enough: offering books that make them want to read is the real win!
