My students' favorite place in the classroom is our reading corner. Besides helping them to focus and enjoy reading, it has become a place of security for many. It allows them to take time out when they become frustrated with a learning activity, whether it be a problem with technology or a small-group activity with their peers. Many students use self-regulation and go on their own. Once they feel they are ready, they know they are free to return to the group. This has been a valuable way to help them to calm themselves and learn how to handle stressful situations. Currently, it is just a cheap rug that they sit on and they constantly fight over the pillows which have become more like square pancakes than pillows. Please help me to continue to provide a place for my students to manage their emotions and become better readers! Thank you!
