These books will fill gaps in my classroom library that have become more apparent to me as I have been teaching virtually. My students have been using multiple online libraries to pick their free-reading books, which has given them access to thousands of titles. This has resulted in many students discovering new series, topics, genres, and authors that interest them. While this has been amazing for me to witness as an educator, it has also inspired me to revamp my classroom library so that it represents the interests of my students more specifically.
The chapter books in this project will fill the gaps in my classroom library, providing fresh graphic novels, nonfiction texts, titles that depict minority protagonists, and other books my students have expressed interest in! Giving my students the ability to hold these books in their hands, rather than only having the option to read them on a screen, will hopefully make them feel seen and cared for in my classroom, as they will see that I notice what they are interested in.
Not only will these books enhance my students' educational experiences, but they will provide a fun, exciting, and personalized learning environment in which all of my students can see themselves represented in our library.
