I would like to offer my students with opportunities to work in the comfort of their own classroom. I will present the design of a flexible seating classroom, the first day of instruction. My students will choose a designated area of their choice to work during both whole group and independent work times. I'm dedicated to making a difference and preparing my students for the unknown. However, I know what kind of skills they are going to need for the many different jobs they will have. Therefore, I'm thinking about how I can make my classroom more open, comfortable to encourage collaboration. I want to give them an environment where they can feel comfortable, safe and appreciated as they learn to make productive choices that work best for them.
My students will need different environments that will give them opportunities to want to take risks in their learning.
The flexible seating options I have selected will help my students by giving them choices. I want them to be able to solve their problems as I set up a certain number of different type of seating arrangements. It's important for me that my students want to come to class and giving them choices will benefit them by giving them an opportunity to trust themselves to sit where they learn best and can stay on task. It comes down to having relationships and building a strong foundation with my students and trusting them to make good choices. I'm looking forward to trying something new as I embark on my first year of teaching!
