We can't expect our students to make choices and solve problems independently if we constantly solve their problems and make their choices for them.
It's our responsibility to teach children how to recognize their needs, whether it be a physical need to move their body in a safe and non-distracting way or a social-emotional need to move to a different place in the room to help them remain calm, focused, and productive.
Your donation will give my students many seating options to choose from that meet their individual needs. By providing a variety of seating choices within the classroom, we celebrate the differences among students and empower them to recognize what they need in order to do their best work. They are also able to develop their interpersonal communication and problem solving skills as they work together to compromise and share spaces in a way that feels fair to everyone. Thinking about the unknowns of next school year, these seating options - including wobble chairs, laptop/writing desks, seat cushions, and yoga balls - will allow students to spread out around the room, promoting social distancing organically. There are SO many benefits to offering flexible seating in the classroom, both now and for years to come. Thank you in advance for considering my project.
