My students LOVE independent reading time! They can get out of their seats and choose a book from our own classroom library. Many of them read with a partner and share personal experiences and talk about the story elements from the books.
The students are excited to compete for Accelerated Reader Goals, but they are also eager to help one another reach goals as well! It is very heartwarming to see them cheer and celebrate together as each student meets his or her goal. I would love to give them new books for our 2nd grade library!
