My students will use these STEM bin materials in a variety of settings including morning work, centers, choice time, as early finishers, etc. to encourage critical thinking.
Students will use the materials to build and refine structures, using their imaginations in conjunction with spatial skills and special challenges. Items purchased will be broken into individual STEM bins with challenge cards. This will help my students become more persistent as they struggle with problems and develop critical thinking skills as they devise and implement strategies to improve their structures. My students will be developing skills that will help them learn to persevere through challenges which will carry over to other tasks and assignments in the classroom.
They will do all of this without even realizing that they are learning, they will think they are simply playing. Students will gain empathy and self-regulatory skills as they create and engineer structures.
