These books will enhance our classroom library by adding more diversity. Each of these titles are either biographies about important and inspirational people in history that promote civil & social rights, important events in history that promote social justice, or have diverse main characters and themes of diversity, acceptance, and equality. I will use these books as read-alouds to discuss important topics. Students will also be able to use these books for independent reading or as reference material for nonfiction writing units.
These books will help promote respectful interactions and an understanding of students' diversity, including language, culture, race, gender, and special needs. My hope is that students will be inspired to become the change and the leaders this world needs.
