As a new counselor, I want to provide the students that I serve with a safe, inviting environment and items that will help them calm down when escalated or upset. I also want to use literature to teach ways to get along with others, conflict resolution, and good boundaries.
I have included several items that will remain in my office in a "calming corner/area". This way, students will be able to come in my office if they are upset/angry and take a few moments to use fidgets, putty, or sensory items to help them calm down.
I plan on using several great books to aid in teaching concepts during our guidance lessons. Some of those concepts include compassion for others, empathy, conflict resolution, feelings and what to do with them, as well as many others.
