Virtual school was the safest option when the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic forced our schools to close. A transition from 6 months of virtual learning and stay at home orders will have serious social-emotional implications for my students. This was unexpected and very difficult for ALL children to understand and adjust to, but especially challenging for students with disabilities.
Flexible seating will allow my students to have choice, ownership, and comfort throughout the day, as they adjust back to school. Seating options such as exercise balls, wobble stools, and fidget bands for their chairs will support the students need to move, exert extra energy, and remain focused, without disrupting the learning environment. This will lead to improved student engagement and achievement for all of my students.
