These instruments will allow my students to take charge of their learning and create their own music. During independent work times they work in groups to practice and create their own compositions. Currently my students are only able to work with the 3 djembe drums that I have. Making sure students are given opportunities to create music in many different ways is an essential component for inspiration and motivation. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given an instrument to apply their learning. They almost always make good choices about how they behave, and are more engaged than when they are just participating in call and response learning.
My student’s demeanor noticeably changes to bright smiles when they are given an instrument and are inspired to create their own music.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them more options to create music and will enhance our music lessons greatly. The glockenspiels will allow students to explore the melodic form of high and low notes. They will also use these to compose their own pieces. These will be extremely beneficial! The handbell sets and cards will be used to teach chordal structure in their pieces that will be performed throughout the year. These will teach the students how to read music notations and rhythm. They will also be an excellent enhancement to our musical programs in addition to our songs, dances, and rhythmic pieces.
I have seen how music can positively affect my students lives on a daily basis and hope that the additional instruments will help us grow even more!
