This school year is going to be full of unknowns and plenty of trial and errors for myself, my students and the school district as a whole. As much as I would like to follow every CDC recommendation given to me, some simply won’t be possible. Although I have a large classroom for the district that I am in, with 25 students, it is mathematically impossible to space each child 6 feet apart. Due to the lack of space in my room, it is necessary that I take extra precautions in order to ensure everyone’s health.
With these privacy screens, I will be able to have students stay seated near each other while also having an extra barrier of protection. As a plus, each privacy screen is made of non-porous material that can be cleaned after each daily use! Due to Covid-19 precautions, my students will no longer be able to have shared supplies or have traditional use of the water fountain. Because of this, students will also need to have a personal pencil sharpener at their seat and a personal water bottle to fill up when we take a break.
I teach in a low-income area and my worry is that many families will not be able to afford these simple items. I know just how grateful my students and I would be to have these items in order to move forward as safely as we can with this upcoming school year. My top priority for my class is to not only open school face to face but to KEEP it open face to face!
