I teach in a rural community with many low-income families. Some of our students come from single parent homes and have parents who work numerous jobs just in order to make ends meet and put food on the table. For this reason, many of the students don't get a lot of extra help on their school work when they are home. I believe in these students and want to see them excel. If you met them, you would too!
