I have developed a new elective course for my school centered on Literature, Film, and Media. In this course, students come together and discuss how we shape our identity and our perspective on ourselves and others through different mediums including film, television, music, and more.
By analyzing these different forms, students will understand how they form their identities and opinions through the stories we tell. In this course, students will have units that incorporate films and media on topics including, Race/Identity, Gender and Family, Power/Resisting Oppression, Mental Health, and the Individual vs. Society.
We will cover the works of authors and artists around the world from diverse cultures bringing in a more global curriculum. Some resources that are planned on being used include When They See Us, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Hate U Give, Parasite, Hamilton, and Jojo Rabbit.
