These books will provide a rich assortment of books that will help engage my students in literature. They will also provide a sense of community because students will be able to pick and select their own independent book without leaving the classroom. Having this option open will create more opportunities to discuss their selections and check in about their reading. It will also give an opportunity to share and relate back to the book because my students will not have to travel to another classroom or the library for a book to read.
Additionally, by having a wide array of books, I will be able to have different levels within my classroom library that will help them choose appropriately and read more throughout the school year. As a result, my students will then feel more safe and comfortable because of these options being right in their classroom. Finally, I know for certain that my incoming class has a strong desire to engage in independent reading and it is my responsibility to ensure that my classroom library has plenty of rich literature to meet their needs.
