This class set of books will help my low level Seniors, make the necessary connections to the literature and the standards. My students are not the strongest readers and often hate reading because they haven't been exposed to stories that they can understand and relate to. These books would help me design lessons that students can draw connections with and actually feel excited to learn. For many of my students, this would be the first book that they will have ever read cover to cover.
I read in class with my students and would use the books to build their vocabulary, understanding of setting, characters, and plot. I also do a lot of project based learning and want to use the books to center those projects around. We don't have a lot of novel options at our school and I think the students would feel appreciative of a more relevant novel choice.
