Our school desires to be part of the solution for healing children that come from traumatic backgrounds and make a difference in the world. We want to participate in a school-wide book study that provides hope not only for our staff but our students. With Covid-19 and now the recent injustices happening across our country ALL students will benefit from trauma informed practices. Educators are not trained to specifically help children of trauma in school, yet they are in the trauma business every single day in their classroom. In order for students to learn at high levels they need teachers that are committed to trauma informed best practices and learn to create a classroom environment that is respectful to each and every child's individual needs.
Teachers learning to care for themselves & choosing to use trauma sensitive practices while building strong RELATIONSHIPS with children equals high levels of classroom learning. We believe this book study would change the lives of 367 students as well the 25 teachers who are committed to having a positive impact on their student's lives every single day. As a brand new elementary school, we are creating a culture of mental wellness and strength. As a staff, we have a deep desire to build resiliency into each and every child despite their challenges. This book study would provide HOPE for teachers and students who are committed to life long learning and helping each child reach full potential despite obstacles in life through effort and a grateful heart. Thank you for considering this professional development request. We hope every child in our school feels loved, supported, seen and heard!
