I had a quote in my classroom that said “Reading gives us someplace to go , when we have to stay where we are.” This is so true; however, the problem is my classroom library is outdated containing many books that have either been passed down, or placed in the leftover stacks from teacher to teacher. When school resumes, I want to be able to welcome my students back with literature that will mean something. Having these books will help my students to open up their minds to new perspectives from people or characters they may not encounter everyday; connect to characters that are similar to themselves; gain empathy towards different life experiences; a chance to imagine new places and adventures. These books will also increase a love for reading, which is something we value in our classroom.
