Now is the time for educators to stand up, take notice, listen to Black communities, talk to our students, and demonstrate anti-racist actions. One of the first steps is for me to diversify my art room library through books that feature Black/POC characters and artists and are written by Black/POC authors.
I want to ensure that every student in my class is reflected in the books we are reading so they have a connection that inspires their own creativity. I also hope to openly address racial issues through our art work. The art room is a platform for expression, storytelling, and advocacy that can profoundly affect students' lives.
