Third grade is a big year! Not only are students expected to be proficient in addition and subtraction when they arrive...they are expected to leave as multiplication and division masters!
While student teaching in 5th grade I noticed a huge connection between student success in math and being able to perform basic operations (subtraction, addition, multiplication, division) fluently. A solid foundation in these basics can provide students with a more successful math future and less frustration. While drilling facts is simply not enough, repeated practice can have great benefits.
These Sharp Quiz Calculators will allow my students to practice all of the basics. They provide facts of your chosen operation in amounts of 25, 50, or 100 problems. The students solve the problems and are then given a percentage correct at the end. It is a fun and engaging way of practicing math facts. It also provides a way for me (the teacher) to monitor student improvement. I have seen a mentor teacher implement this tool in her classroom in a variety of ways and am excited to hopefully do the same.
These calculators will be used from start to end of the school year!
