All students are unique and wonderful in their own ways. As a school counselor, I support and advocate for all of the students in my school. I want all students to thrive in their classroom learning environment and to have access to any type of tool that can assist them in learning to their greatest potential.
Sensory tools such as noise-reducing headphones and wobble cushions are items that are often requested by teachers at my school to help students create an environment that meets their sensory needs. Headphones help students that have sensitivities to the sounds anywhere from the constant hum of learning in a classroom to the booming cheers and conversations in a lunchroom or assembly. Wobble cushions are great for students who need extra movement while learning and doing seat work. They help with focus and attention during direct instruction and independent work.
My goal is to have at least one of each in each classroom.
